The ePropulsion Spirit 2 is a 2kW / 5 hp electric outboard with a 6hp /3kW boost mode. With twice the power of most portable electric outboards, the Spirit 2 is a great choice for boaters who want the convenience and portability of a small electric outboard but with more power! But the ePropulsion Spirit 2 isn't just a more powerful version of its predecessor, the Spirit 1.0 Plus. The Spirit 2 boasts a host of new features, including a higher capacity battery with a cable free connection, a removable transom bracket, hydrogeneration, an upgraded color display, extendable and foldable tiller, shallow water tilt angle, and pin-free steering lock. Learn more about the ePropulsion Spirit 2 on this page and by watching the videos below!
IMPORTANT NOTE- REMOTE VERSION: Remote versions will not have access to boost mode and other new features on the Spirit 2 at this time. The two controls currently available have limited features. You will not have the same menu options as the tiller versions and cannot use boost mode, limit power output, override the kill switch, or see total hours on the motor, amongst other things. ePropulsion is developing new controls that will have access to these features, but there is not ETA on these new products at this time. Please contact us for more information.
Key Features
Whisper-Quiet Direct Drive
The motor sits fully submerged, making the Spirit 2 virtually silent at all speeds. You'll hear the water, the birds, and your passengers — not the engine. A dramatic improvement over comparable gas outboards.
2 kW Continuous, 3 kW Boost
Twice the power of standard portable electric outboards. 2 kW continuous output for cruising and a 3 kW boost mode for getting on plane or punching through chop. Equivalent to a 5–6 hp gas outboard at the prop.
Upgraded Battery
The ePropulsion Spirit 2 Battery (the Spirit Battery Ultra) has a 1539Wh capacity, about 20% more than the ePropulsion Spirit Battery Plus, and weighs just four pounds more (23 pounds). The Spirit Battery Ultra also has four LED lights that indicate state of charge, so you don't need to plug the battery into the motor to check!
Hydrogeneration
While sailing, the propeller spins freely and feeds energy back into the battery. Sailboat owners can extend their range passively — no extra hardware required. The more you sail, the more you recharge.
Low Maintenance
No oil changes, no winterization, no carburetor cleaning, no fuel stabilizer. After saltwater use, rinse with fresh water. That's it. No service intervals and no scheduled engine maintenance.
USB-C Power Output
The Spirit Battery Ultra has a built-in USB-C port. Use it to charge your phone, fish finder, VHF radio, or GPS directly from the motor battery — no separate power bank needed.
Easy Steering Lock/Unlock
Unlike the Spirit 1.0 Plus, you don't need to insert a pin under the battery to lock your steering. Instead, the Spirit 2 transom bracket has a tab on the bottom which you can slide forward and aft to lock or unlock steering without removing the battery. This feature is great for sailors who want to lock the Spirit 2 in place and use their boat's rudder to steer, or if you'd like to keep your motor centered when it's out of the water.
Separate Transom Bracket
The ePropulsion Spirit 2 has a separate transom bracket that weighs ~5 lbs, making installing and removing the Spirit 2 a breeze. Once the transom bracket is attached to your boat or motor mount, simply drop the shaft on to the bracket. To remove it, press the button on the side of the bracket, then lift the shaft up.
Shallow Water Tilt Angle
Unlike older electric outboards, the Spirit 2 has a shallow water tilt angle of 35 degrees, which makes operating in shallow water or coming into the beach a breeze!
Upgraded Display (Tiller Version Only)
The new color display on the ePropulsion Spirit 2 is significantly larger and easier to read than that on the ePropulsion Spirit 1.0 Plus. It includes much more data and options, including adjustable brightness, day/night mode, error log, motor hours, hardware and software versions, adjustable max power output in both forward and reverse, and a log of total hydro-regen energy produced. Plus, if you lose your kill switch, you can go into the settings and allow the motor to operate without it (power output is limited to 1kW in this mode).
Improved Tiller
The tiller of the ePropulsion Spirit 2 can swing down to -90 degrees and up to 80 degrees, locking off at both of those positions, as well as 0 degrees and 45 degrees. The tiller is stronger and designed so that you can carry the motor from the tiller during transport. The tiller handle has the ability to extend about 5", allowing you to get your weight further forward in the boat, which is key if you'd like to plane!
Cable Free Connection
Unlike the 1.0 Plus, the ePropulsion Spirit 2 doesn't have a cable that connects the battery to the motor. Simply open the cover on the motor, slide the battery on to the shaft, move the locking lever, and you're off to the races. Not only is this faster than dealing with a cable, but it this design makes it much more difficult to encounter broken or corroded data or power pins.
