The ePropulsion eLite is a 500W / 1.5hp electric outboard motor with an built in 378 Wh battery. With a rudder-like design, separate transom bracket, and a weight of just ~15 pounds, the eLite is one of the most portable and user-friendly electric outboards on the market today. The eLite provides about 45 minutes of run time at full power and about an hour and a half of run time at half power, making it suitable for short ship to shore trips or an auxiliary motor for small sailboats that just need something to get home when the wind dies or on and off the dock or trailer. Boaters who often fight wind, waves or current or run a larger dinghy with more than 1-2 passengers often should look for something more powerful than the eLite. The eLite isn't the perfect electric outboard for everyone, but if it fits your use case, we know you'll love it.

Key Features

Light Weight

The Long Shaft ePropulsion eLite itself only weighs 16.1 pounds, and the short shaft version only weighs 14.7 pounds. The eLite transom bracket is another 2.7 pounds.

Unmatched Portability

Not only is the eLite one of the lightest electric outboards on the market, but it's also one of the most portable. Simply click the button on the eLite transom bracket to remove the motor. The tiller folds down, making it easy to carry.

Quiet

The ePropulsion eLite is a direct drive electric outboard, meaning the electric motor is right in front of the propeller. Since the already quiet motor is underwater when the eLite is in use, it's virtually silent to the operator.

Minimal Maintenance

Other than a fresh water rinse after use in salt water, keeping the electrical contacts clean, and being mindful of the eLite battery's state of charge, there is no regular maintenance.

Shallow Water Tilt Angle

The eLite has multiple tilt and trim angles: all the way down, shallow water mode (36 degrees) and all the way up (75 degrees). Surprisingly, not all electric outboards have a shallow water tilt position.

Adjustable Tiller

The ePropulsion eLite's tiller is extendable and can lock off in multiple positions. You can also carry the eLite from the tiller handle when it is folded all the way down.

Shaft Length

The ePropulsion eLite comes in two shaft lengths, referred to by ePropulsion as Short and Long. In reality, the short shaft eLite is more like an extra short shaft, and the long shaft eLite is more like a short shaft. Please take the time to verify which shaft length you need before purchasing as exchanges are very expensive for buyers. Watching this video is the best way to learn how to determine the correct shaft length.

While both versions have adjustable shaft lengths, the longest length on the short shaft version is about an inch shorter than the shortest setting on the long shaft version. The measurements for shaft length in the specifications section of this page are measured from the transom bracket to the tip of the propeller when the propeller is in a vertical position.

Dinghies & other boats with standard transoms: Measure the height of your transom from where the motor will mount to the bottom of the hull. If this measurement is 15.5" or less, the short shaft will work. If it is between 15.5" and 21", the long shaft is the best choice. The long shaft will work on boats with transoms less than 15.5", you'll just draw a bit more water and lose a slight bit of efficiency. You will also have more flexibility if you change to another boat in the future.

Sailboats almost always need the long shaft version of the ePropulsion eLite. If the measurement from your transom bracket to the water is more than 12" we recommend the long shaft version.

ePropulsion eLite Propeller
ePropulsion eLite Propeller
$52

While the eLite's prop isn't delicate, it's made of plastic and designed to break before your motor gets damaged in the event of an impact. An extra prop is a cheap insurance policy; swapping it out is quick and easy with an Allen wrench.

ePropulsion eLite Trim Pin
ePropulsion eLite Trim Pin
$15

Despite ePropulsion's claim that the trim pin no longer falls out easily, it's still not hard to lose it. Without it, you can't change your trim position and your motor won't lock down in reverse. Watch this video to learn how to secure it with a zip tie.

Charge your ePropulsion eLite from a 12-24v outlet or battery instead of a wall outlet. Great for sailors and liveaboards. It's slower than the standard charger but saves you from running a generator or inverter. You can charge while using the eLite, but that is not what the charger is designed for.
