Tango One
EMO Electric's purpose built electric power catamaran
When we started EMO Electric in 2022, we had a dream of building our own purpose built electric boat. Instead of packing as many batteries as possible into a hull, why not design an efficient hull around the batteries themselves? Working with Wolverine Boatworks for design, Mowbray Custom Fabrication for the build, and Flux Marine for the propulsion system, we were able to bring this dream to life.
Design
-
Downeast Style
Tango One gives a nod to the classic downeastern style hull, but with the modern twist of a catamaran hull, aluminum hull, and, of course, an electric propulsion system.
-
Catamaran Hull
In 2025, the weight of the batteries is the major limiting factor in electric boats. By using a catamaran style hull for the Tango One, opposed to a traditional monohull, we get more range with less battery capacity.
-
Foils
Designed by Morrelli & Melvin, the Tango One's foils help reduce drag, improve efficiency, and ultimately increase range without the need for more battery capacity. Foil optimization is still ongoing in late 2025.

Propulsion System
-
Outboards
The Tango One is powered by two electric outboards manufactured by Flux Marine. Each motor provides 115HP of continuous power, with an acceleration power of 175HP.
-
Batteries
Each outboard is powered by two 28kWh Flux Marine Li-Ion NMC battery packs, bringing the total battery capacity to 112kWh.
-
Propellers
Tango One is currently propelled by two Michigan Wheel DJX props. More testing is underway to optimize hole shot, top speed and range.

Finishing Work
Finishing work on the Tango One is still ongoing. EVA foam decking has been installed to soften the look of the aluminum hull and provide noise reduction. The vast majority of the hull has been painted, and vinyl accents will be added in the future. More photos are coming soon with the boat set up with cushions and ready for a day out on the water!

Preliminary Testing Data
Our initial testing data is below. The performance report and testing indicates that the foils and propellers are not optimized, and much more testing is in the works!
